Junk & Photo Challenge Day 6: Pet/Animal

I bet you thought it was going to be Ace!  I thought it was too, but the perfect scenario presented itself.  I post my photo the day after they are taken, so this is from yesterday.

Yesterday, Nick's mom (Merrilee), his sister (Katie), and I drove 2 1/2 hours to a junk festival.  We had never heard of this particular fest but apparently has gotten very popular and much bigger in the past few years.  We got up early, stopped at Starbucks (woohoo for pumpkin spice lattes!) and were on our way.  After finding a parking place and paying the small fee to get in, we found ourselves in a holding pen feeling much like cattle since we were at a fairground surrounded by fences and gates.
At 8:59:50am there was a countdown and the floodgates were opened!  There were actually a few people who ran!  We headed into the unknown world of junk and now we're changed women!  We had such a fun time browsing all the items, laughing until there were tears, and purchasing our own junk!  At the end of the day, we loaded up the truck, stopped at the hardware store to get straps and started our trip back home where we laugh-cried even more and dreamt up how we were going to fix-up and use our new stuff.

Here is my favorite purchase I made - a buttery yellow desk for me!!!  I'm still deciding where to put it, but I've been having some visions and my new space is going to be AH-mazing!

I also bought 2 bistro style chairs (one for my desk and another because if I bought 2 I got a good deal), and a bedside dresser that needs major tlc.  Hopefully that project will be done before the year's end and you'll see it here.

But back to my photo challenge photo.  In the first barn we entered we found this adorable fluffy rabbit just chilling out on her cage letting people pet her and posing for photos.  I had to jump on the bandwagon and snap one too - because Mackenzie loves rabbits and I knew she would get a kick out of this photo.  I hadn't even thought about the photo I needed for the day, but here it is!

Day 6: pet/animal

The best part of this though was that this was an angora rabbit and the owner used it's super soft hair to spin her own yarn and make scarves and hats out of it!  We didn't realize it until we had been through the whole building and were walking out.  This lady was sitting at her spinning wheel with the rabbit on her lap, gently pulling the fur out (because it was shedding - it didn't hurt her) and spinning it into yarn right there!  It was pretty amazing!

And there you go - an update of my activities and my challenge photo all in one!  (and I made it for today by 30 minutes!)

Photo Challenge Day 3: Scenic

I don't really think my photos need captions, I'll just let them speak for themselves!  (partly for each to interpret how they choose, and partly because I'm busy and/or lazy) :)  Happy Thursday!

30 Day Photo Challenge

I came across this challenge on Facebook and thought it sounded like a fun thing to do on my blog.  I won't be posting my photos to the website where the challenge originated, but just here.  I plan to do every day, but we'll see.  So far, I'm two for two, but a day late to post, so I'll just start with Day 1 today.  Here are all the days' themes.

And here is day 1: me (at 8:00am)

Our final weekend at the lake and I had a glorious morning with the paper and my coffee.  Here are some more pictures from our weekend.

The Ranch

We spent a couple days at the ranch and we had a great time - the weather was perfect and there was lots to do.  Here are a few of my favorite photos.

Watering the garden with Grandma

Nick was doing some weed whacking and Mackenzie was bored so she waited patiently on the top of the truck.  She also tried my coffee and hated it.

Feeding Sprinkles the horse

Chickens!

Growling at the chickens!

My girl, Pearl.  I wasn't going to ride a horse named Rocket or Wild Fire - sounds dangerous.  Pearl is a much safer name!

She was perfectly behaved for me too.

Mackenzie got to ride a horse by herself for the first time.  (while Nick led her, so I guess not totally by herself - but close enough for this nervous Momma!)

She loved it!

Plenty of these guys around.

A few pictures of the new babies this year.  I have no idea what their names are anymore - there were six of them and they were adorable with their mohawk manes!

I love this photo!

I don't have many pictures of Rylan because he was with Grandpa most of the time.  They were treasure hunting - for rocks, gold, meteorites, arrowheads, cannonballs, and anything else that looked cool.  They had a great time together!

Jack, Rylan, and Ace - hanging out on the deck after a fun day!
