It's been a long time since I've changed my music, and I've been reminded lately of how blessed I am to have two beautiful, healthy children. The songs on my playlist are now all songs that have a special meaning for them. They are:
1. The Words I Would Say - Sidewalk Prophets
2. I Hope You Dance - Leann Womack
3. My Wish - Rascal Flatts
4. Amazing - Janelle
5. Masterpiece - Sandi Patty
6. God Speed - Dixie Chicks
The first three have encouraging words I hope my children will think about as they become adults. Number 4 is exactly how I feel as I look at each of them, they truly are amazing! Number 5 is Mackenzie's special song that I sing to her every night and number 6 is Rylan's special song that I sing to him each night. Both of these songs have been "theirs" since they were born.

Nice Weather!
The temps have been in the 50's here lately and it's so awesome! We've been trying to play in the backyard more lately before it gets too cold, so here's a few more pictures.
My girl, just chillin. She doesn't have her glasses on in these pictures because we lost them temporarily that evening.
Swinging!
Underdog! I enjoy giving underdogs SO much, you have no idea. And I'm not kidding either! I will never forget how I felt when I was pregnant with Mackenzie and about to burst. Rylan was swinging and wanted an underdog, but I was so huge that I could barely move without something hurting or being short of breath. It was the worst feeling in the world and I wasn't sure if I'd ever be back to normal. So now that I can give underdogs with no ill effects, I could do them all day long! And both kids would swing all day long if I let them, it's great!
In other news, I ordered Mackenzie some new glasses today. We got the Lafont ones, so check out the previous post for that link. They were super cute and light, and should be much more durable. I can't wait to get them in!
Here are some funny things that Rylan has said or done lately.
-This morning, I woke up at 5:30am because I heard a noise. It was Rylan, he was awake and going to the bathroom. Like a good mom, I pretended I didn't hear anything. He went back to his room, but I could hear him mumbling stuff, so I knew he was not going back to sleep. About 15 minutes later, I heard Mackenzie start to wake up and just like that, I hear clear as day, "Oh, I hear Kenzie, I better go check her". It was so cute. He marched into her room and soon, I hear Mackenzie just squealing with joy. I went to her room to find he had filled her crib with toys and was climbing in there with her. It was so cute, I let them play in there together while I showered.
This evening, while I was making dinner, Rylan suddenly ran into the kitchen and announced that it was "free-thiry, it's hoppin time". (translation: It's three-thirty, it's hopping time) He then proceeds to hop around the kitchen until, "oh, it's thiry-nine-seben, I'm tired" (thirty-nine-seven). He's getting so creative, making things up, it's hilarious. I love to see his little mind playing make-believe and coming up with stories and ideas, it's just so awesome to watch him develop.
I found $2 on the ground outside a store tonight, but then smelled of cigarette smoke. So instead of putting them in my wallet, I left them sit on the center console of the car. Rylan asked what I was doing, so I told them they smelled like icky smoke and he replied, "oh, you better leave them there, or Daddy is going to say, 'hey it smells like gunk (skunk)' and he going to wonder how that happen. He going to think there was a lion here." What???? Seriously, love it!
Oh, and one more thing! I found something that Mackenzie doesn't like..... raspberries. Nope, she doesn't like fresh raspberries. Today was the first time she's had raspberries (I know, sad) but I don't buy them much because I hate the seeds and a tiny container is usually way too expensive around here. But I digress... We had some tonight so I cut one up and she tried each piece, but spit them all back out. I couldn't believe it, but at least I know she can taste now. I was starting to think she would just eat anything!

Never Thought I'd Be Googling...
....Infant Eyewear.
I'm searching for new glasses for Mackenzie. I really like the ones she has, but they aren't very durable. They haven't broken yet, but we are visiting the optometrist at least twice a week to have them adjusted. With a big brother and now beginning to walk, her glasses are taking a beating. We've already had to replace one lens, they get bent out of shape almost every day, and when it's beyond my minor tweaking, we head into the office. It's usually a quick fix, but not when I have to get the kids from daycare, drive across town, get them both out of the car, in the building, get Rylan settled with a snack while they fix Mackenzie's glasses, get everyone back into the car, and drive back across town to go home. It's not a quick trip and it gets harder as it gets colder. So, I'm researching some different options. I should have done this before, but when I brought in her prescription the first time, they only had one option for babies. I know nothing about glasses so I figured that one would have to be fine. I didn't want to wait for them to get more options, so we just bought them. Now I wish we would have waited because these are really a pain. I suppose any pair is going to be a pain though because she's 16 months old, what do I expect. But I'm finding some options that might have promise. Here are a few.

Maybe I just need them to teach me how to do the adjustments and give me any special tools I need. I've used a pliers, but I'm afraid it's too harsh and one of these times, the lens is going to pop out or shatter while I'm "adjusting" (read: bending with all my might) I really have no idea how she wrecks them so quickly. Just tonight, I realized one of the nose pads was missing. I didn't look very long, figuring it was buried in the carpet or in her tummy. However, as I was sitting on the couch, I happened to glance down and there it was! I haven't tried to get it back on yet, because we'll be going in tomorrow for an adjustment anyway. And I can't leave them semi-straight either, because if they aren't right, she won't leave them on. I can't blamer her either, I'm sure it's not comfortable. So tomorrow when we go in, I'm going to ask if they can get a few different styles to try and hopefully we can find something better that works. Because she's keeping them on, and she can definitely see better with them, now we just need to maximize the time she has them on by assuring they aren't always messed up.

Oh, and one more thing. If you have a baby (or know a baby) who is 12 months old or less, PLEASE bring them in for an eye appointment. InfantSee is a program that provides children younger than 12 months to get a free eye exam. I wish I had known about this program as I would have taken Mackenzie in before she turned 1. Obviously the outcome would have been the same, but at least I wouldn't have had to pay for the visit. Go to the above link for more information. Not every optometrist is an InfantSee Dr, so check the website for a list. Even if you are sure your baby can see fine, it can't hurt to check it out. I was sure that Mackenzie could see fine, but it might be the reason she's only starting to walk now. Without her glasses, she's much more cautious when walking. She will take off right away with her glasses on. So go get those babies checked!

At Least He's Polite
At bedtime tonight, I told Rylan he needed to go to bed, and he replied, "no thank you" with his head cocked to the side and a pouty look on his face. All I could do was laugh.
He's been obsessed with band-aids lately. A couple weeks ago, he got a scratch on his cheek (maybe you've noticed it in pictures) and it has only gotten worse because he keeps picking the scab off. We've been trying to keep a band-aid on it as much as possible to give it time to heal, but then he picks those off too. It's finally healing up, but now he has to have band-aids for every little hurt he gets. He picks at the skin on his cuticles and often gets red and sore right there. Just a little bit ago, while Nick was trying to get him in bed, he claimed that his finger hurt and he needed a band-aid. When Nick told him his finger was fine, he quick bit the skin, and said, "see, I bite it, it hurts". Nick laughed and replied, "tough guys don't need band-aids" to which Rylan said, "I'm not a tough guy." Oh, the mind of a 3-year-old!

The Little Beaver
Last night when I went in to check on Mackenzie, I found she has been gnawing on her crib. Not just a little gnawing either, some big chunks! So how do we fix this?
I know they sell plastic covers for crib rails, but that wasn't going to do much good last night while she was chewing away. It was Nick's great idea to wrap fabric around the whole crib and it works perfectly. She didn't quite know what to think, but hopefully this will deter her rodent-like tendencies.
